TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Senate today passed a bill introduced by Senator Robert Singer, aimed at enhancing transparency in real estate transactions involving homes with solar panels. Bill S-3234 requires sellers of single-family homes equipped with solar panels to disclose the installer’s contact information.
Senator Singer (R-30) emphasized the need for this legislation, citing difficulties faced by buyers in contacting solar panel installers for support. The bill mandates that sellers include in the sales contract the contact details of the solar panel installation business and specify the status of any existing lease agreements for the panels.
An alternative to this requirement is the inclusion of this information in the seller’s property condition disclosure statement. This move by the Senate represents a significant step towards ensuring buyer protection and clarity in the growing market of solar-equipped homes.
