Moped Operator Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision in Kearny

Kearny, NJ – A serious crash in Kearny has left a moped operator with life-threatening injuries, prompting an investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, February 11, 2024, when a cargo van collided with the moped in the vicinity of Harrison Avenue and Bergen Avenue.

The victim, a 67-year-old man from North Arlington, was found by responding Kearny Police Department officers shortly after the accident was reported at 10:15 p.m. Despite the severity of his injuries, the driver of the cargo van involved in the crash did not remain at the scene. The vehicle was later located nearby.

Emergency Medical Services transported the critically injured moped operator to University Hospital in Newark. He was subsequently transferred to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
