HOUSTON, TX – The tragic death of 12-year-old Carlos Fernandez on March 4, 2024, has left the Houston community in mourning and heralded the young boy as a hero for his actions in protecting his family. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is intensively searching for 27-year-old Terry Bryan Rivera, the alleged perpetrator and ex-boyfriend of Carlos’s mother, on charges of capital murder.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 4, when deputies were called to the scene of a shooting at an apartment located at 13921 Alderson, near Woodforest and Uvalde in Cloverleaf. Upon arrival, they discovered Carlos fatally shot, with paramedics pronouncing him dead at the scene. According to reports, Rivera fled the scene in a gray pickup truck, which authorities have since recovered.
In a related development, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced the arrest of Rivera’s mother, 51-year-old Alva Cornejo, on charges of hindering the apprehension or prosecution of her son. The family of Carlos Fernandez, represented by uncle Delfino Gonzales, has made a public appeal during a press conference for anyone with information to assist in capturing Rivera and bringing him to justice. The community and law enforcement are united in their efforts to address this heinous crime and support the grieving family.
