Do You Know Him? Newark Police Seek Fugitive Wanted for Assault

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé announced the issuance of an arrest warrant for 53-year-old Eric Mendoza, who is also known by the alias Leroy Holmes, in relation to an aggravated assault that took place early in the morning on Sunday, March 24, 2024. The incident occurred at the intersection of Broad Street and Murray Street, where it was reported that a man was attacked with a baseball bat and a stick by two male suspects.

Following an investigation, Newark Police detectives have named Mendoza as a suspect in the violent episode, leading to a warrant for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, conspiracy, and theft. Mendoza is described as being 5’11” tall, weighing 165 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and a bald head. Authorities are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating Mendoza to ensure his apprehension and face charges related to this assault.
