South River, NJ – Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Mark Tinitigan from the South River Police Department have revealed an investigation into an explosion that occurred in the Borough of South River. The incident took place on Thursday evening at approximately 7:03 PM at a residence on Continental Court.

One man, identified as Kevin Gilbert, 62, lost his life during the event, while another victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Authorities are actively looking into the cause of the explosion and urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the South River Police Department or the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The South River Fire Department is urging the public and civilian bystanders to clear the roadway and vicinity of the incident during emergency incidents such as this one. Expediting fire apparatus to the scene was inhibited due to stand still traffic in a residential neighborhood, the department said.
