Body Found in Front Seat of Burning Car in Virginia

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA – The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake Field Office is currently investigating an unattended death following a vehicle fire in Birdsnest, Northampton County.

The incident was reported on the morning of Wednesday, May 15, when authorities were alerted to a vehicle fire along the southbound shoulder of Lankford Highway/Route 13 in the 10100 block.

The vehicle, a light blue 2002 Honda Sport with Maryland license plates, had been spotted parked at the same location around 5 a.m. before being discovered on fire just before 9 a.m.

After extinguishing the flames, a body was found in the front passenger seat.

The deceased has been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner for examination, autopsy, and positive identification. Virginia State Police are urging anyone who might have observed the vehicle early that morning or any suspicious activity near the site before 9 a.m. to come forward.
