GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division has launched an intensive search for Emanuel Edward Sewell, a 54-year-old Chevy Chase resident, following the death of a Maryland Parole and Probation agent. Sewell is wanted on charges of second-degree murder.
The incident unfolded on Friday at approximately 5:50 PM when police were called to the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase to perform a welfare check on a missing agent, who had been conducting a routine check on Sewell, a registered sex offender. Upon entry, officers found an adult male deceased. Sewell had fled the scene and remains at large.
Authorities have described Sewell as potentially armed and dangerous and advise the public not to approach him. He is believed to be driving a gray 2017 Hyundai Elantra, with Maryland license plates 93661HT.
The identity of the deceased agent will be disclosed after next of kin are notified. The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Citizens with any information on Sewell’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Montgomery County Police non-emergency number or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County. Tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a substantial reward and can be made anonymously.
