NEWARK, DE – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Newark, resulting in one fatality.
The incident happened on June 2, at about 4:11 PM, on E. Chestnut Hill Road. A black 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle, reportedly speeding in the eastbound left lane, collided with a gray 2016 Nissan Rogue. The Nissan was executing a left turn under a flashing red arrow from E. Chestnut Hill Road westbound onto Gender Road southbound when the crash occurred. The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Bear, Delaware, was ejected upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
Additionally, the Nissan involved in the collision subsequently hit a blue 2013 BMW 650i, which was stopped at a red light on Gender Road northbound. The drivers of the Nissan and the BMW, aged 28 and 24 respectively, both from Newark, Delaware, reported no injuries.
Following the crash, the area around the scene was closed for approximately five hours to allow for an investigation and road clearance by the authorities.
