New Jersey Radio Station Says Spadea Can Keep His Job on Air During Political Campaign

In light of ethical concerns, FCC regulations, and the New Jersey campaign financing dispute, the radio station says Bill Spadea can remain on the air during his candidacy for governor.

Here are some of the remarks Spadea has made on air in the past few years:

TRENTON, NJ— His opponents are crying foul, but NJ101.5 radio loudmouth Bill Spadea is being allowed to remain on-air during his campaign for governor, according to the radio station.

That move could put the radio station into a sticky legal situation as Spadea’s air time is being challenged as a political contribution. Others claim his use of the station as a candidate violates the station’s ethical policy and tarnishes its ability to remain neutral during what is expected to be a fierce competition for Governor in 2025.

“Until he becomes a legally qualified candidate, Bill will continue to fulfill his employment responsibilities entertaining and informing the local audience on New Jersey 101.5 airwaves and digital platforms, as he has done for the last 9 years. However, we are sensitive to the legal parameters attendant keeping a broadcast personality on air while they are seeking public office,” the station said in statement. “Accordingly, we have taken steps and imposed guidelines to ensure that Bill’s on-air presence over the coming months and until he becomes a legally qualified candidate are in accordance with New Jersey election law, applicable FCC guidance, and industry standards and best practices for such circumstances. As a company, and to be clear, Townsquare is and will remain neutral concerning a Spadea candidacy and does not endorse any political candidates or parties. At the same time, Townsquare will continue to uphold the values of integrity and community involvement personified by our team members.”

Townsquare Media announced today that Bill Spadea, a prominent personality on New Jersey 101.5, has decided to run for Governor of New Jersey. Spadea has been a key figure on air, engaging with the local community through various digital platforms for the past nine years.

The company respects the civic rights of its employees and supports their contributions to societal well-being. While Spadea is not yet a legally qualified candidate, he will continue his role at the station, adhering to all legal and broadcast standards required during his campaign.

Townsquare has implemented specific guidelines to ensure Spadea’s activities on air remain compliant with New Jersey election law and FCC regulations. This adherence is to maintain the impartiality required during the electoral process.

The company emphasized its neutral stance regarding political candidates and parties. It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding values of integrity and community involvement, which are hallmarks of its organizational ethos.
