WEST NEW YORK, N.J. — Two men have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian critically injured on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The arrests were announced by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Samuel Collazo, 20, of Westfield, and Rylan Cook-Figueroa, 20, of West New York, were taken into custody on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Collazo faces multiple charges, including Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Endangering an Injured Victim, Receiving Stolen Property, and Unlawful Taking. Cook-Figueroa is charged with Endangering an Injured Victim and Unlawful Taking.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. on August 17, when the West New York Police Department received a report of a pedestrian struck by a motorcycle near the intersection of Bergenline Avenue and 57th Street. Officers arrived to find a 54-year-old Union City man with life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the motorcycle had fled the scene on foot.
The victim remains in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is ongoing.
Both suspects are being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending their first court appearances.
