Fatal Collision Involving Fire Truck in Philadelphia Leaves One Dead, Another Critically Injured

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. — A fatal crash involving a Philadelphia Fire Department ladder truck and another vehicle occurred on Saturday, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old woman and critical injuries to a 29-year-old man.

The incident took place at approximately 12:10 p.m. at the intersection of W. Lehigh Avenue and W. Sedgley Avenue in the 22nd District. According to a preliminary investigation, the PFD ladder truck, identified as Unit #1, was heading west on Lehigh Avenue en route to an assignment when it collided with another vehicle, identified as Unit #2, which was traveling north on Sedgley Avenue.

The collision occurred after the operator of Unit #2 reportedly cut in front of the fire truck. The impact caused Unit #2 to strike a parked, unattended vehicle, identified as Unit #3. The male operator of Unit #2 was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The female passenger, who was also in Unit #2, was pronounced dead at Temple Hospital at 12:44 p.m.
