Off-duty NYC sheriff’s employee arrested on weapon and menacing charges

NEW YORK, Sept. 28 — An off-duty employee of the New York City Department of Sheriff was arrested early Saturday morning, authorities said. The arrest took place in the 34th Precinct, which covers parts of Upper Manhattan.

Mackenson Vil, 38, was taken into custody at approximately 3:22 a.m. He faces charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing, according to the police report.

The circumstances surrounding Vil’s arrest were not immediately disclosed. It was unclear whether the alleged offenses occurred while he was on duty or during a personal incident.

Vil, who works as an officer for the NYC Department of Sheriff, is expected to face an arraignment in the coming days. The Department of Sheriff has not yet commented on the arrest or whether Vil will be placed on administrative leave.

No further details were available regarding the investigation, and it was unclear whether Vil had retained legal representation.
