Inmate charged after pulling shiv during prison fight

STAFFORD, Va. — An inmate at Rappahannock Regional Jail was injured during a fight involving a makeshift knife on October 18, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:51 a.m., involved four inmates in two separate altercations.

Deputy K.R. Sprinkles responded to the jail at 12:55 p.m. following reports of a fight. After reviewing camera footage and speaking with jail staff, Deputy Sprinkles learned that the first altercation began when one inmate assaulted another. Moments later, a second fight broke out between two additional inmates.

Authorities said that during the confrontation, one of the inmates produced a makeshift knife and began slashing another inmate. The injured inmate sustained minor wounds and was treated within the jail. One of the other inmates involved in the altercation did not retaliate and remained unharmed.

Following the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office charged two inmates with assault and battery. The inmate who wielded the knife was charged with attempted malicious wounding and a felony by prisoner.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the identities of the inmates involved.
