by Breaking Local News Report

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A 19-year-old Cumberland woman is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attempting to smother an infant, according to local police.

On November 5, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of E. First Street following a report of possible child abuse. A resident informed police that Mikara Humbertson had allegedly placed a pillow over an infant’s head. Emergency personnel from the Cumberland Fire Department evaluated the child at the scene.

Following the incident, Humbertson was transported to a hospital for evaluation. After a subsequent investigation, police filed charges against her, including attempted first-degree and second-degree murder, as well as multiple assault charges and reckless endangerment.

The Combined County Criminal Investigation (C3I) Unit assisted in the investigation, and an arrest warrant was issued for Humbertson. She was taken into custody on November 9 and appeared before a District Court Commissioner, who ordered her held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
