Man sought in pipe attack on 60-year-old in East Village, police say

Police hunt for suspect in violent East Village assault with metal pipe.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Police are searching for a suspect who struck a 60-year-old man in the head with a metal pipe after an argument over money in the East Village last month.

The assault occurred on Friday, October 18, at approximately 2:30 p.m. inside 223 1st Avenue, according to the NYPD. The suspect reportedly approached the victim and asked for money. When the victim said he did not have any, the suspect pulled a metal pipe from his book bag and struck him in the back of the head, causing a laceration.

The assailant fled northbound on 1st Avenue to an unknown location. The victim was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was treated and listed in stable condition.

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect.
