High Bridge crossing guard killed in pedestrian crash while on duty

HIGH BRIDGE, N.J. — A 75-year-old crossing guard was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon while working at the intersection of County Route 513 and Larrison Avenue, authorities said.

Robert Bork, a High Bridge resident and crossing guard for the High Bridge Police Department, was assisting pedestrians at the intersection when a southbound vehicle struck him around 12:10 p.m. Emergency crews, including the High Bridge Police and Fire Departments, Annandale Fire Department, and South Branch Emergency Services, responded to the scene.

Bork was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Forensic Analysis Collision Team (F.A.C.T.) is leading the investigation into the crash. Authorities have not released details about the driver or the circumstances surrounding the collision.

“This tragic loss is deeply felt by our community,” officials said in a statement.
