Burlington crossing guard critically injured in pedestrian crash

BURLINGTON, N.J. — A Burlington City school crossing guard was critically injured in a pedestrian crash early Monday morning at the intersection of Jacksonville Road and James Street, police said.

The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. when the crossing guard, whose name has not been released, was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Jacksonville Road.

Authorities confirmed that the crossing guard was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. The injured individual was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, N.J., and remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police are reviewing footage from nearby cameras and speaking with witnesses to determine the cause of the crash.

“We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and improve safety for all road users,” the department said in a statement.
