No. 2 Auburn pulls away from Monmouth after sluggish start

by Breaking Local News Report

AUBURN, Ala. — No. 2 Auburn shook off a slow start Monday night to dominate Monmouth 87-58, powered by double-doubles from Johni Broome and Dylan Cardwell.

Broome tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Cardwell added 12 points and 11 boards to help Auburn (12-1) secure its 12th win of the season. After trailing for nearly seven minutes in the first half, the Tigers found their rhythm with a surge led by Chaney Johnson, who scored eight of his 12 points in quick succession to put Auburn ahead for good.

By halftime, the Tigers had built a commanding 46-28 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach. Auburn’s offensive effort was further bolstered by Chad Baker-Mazara, who contributed 13 points off the bench.

For Monmouth (2-11), Abdi Bashir Jr. led the team with 15 points, while Jaret Valencia added 13. Despite the loss, Monmouth has shown signs of promise this season, including a road win against Seton Hall and competitive stretches against teams like Wichita State and Rutgers.

Auburn’s rebounding dominance and depth proved to be key factors, allowing the Tigers to recover from early struggles and cruise to victory.
