New York Man Charged for Attempted Murder in Attack at Walkill Hospital

Monroe, NY – Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler reported the arraignment of Christopher Morgan, 40, of Monroe, on Tuesday in Orange County Court. Morgan faces charges including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and multiple counts of assault following an incident on March 6 that involved the attack of a healthcare provider at a hospital in Wallkill.

Court documents indicate that Morgan was a patient in Garnet Medical Center’s behavioral health unit when he allegedly assaulted his psychiatrist, taking her identification badge. Morgan fled but was apprehended in Port Jervis the next day. The victim sustained significant injuries, and Morgan has been remanded to the Orange County Jail with several bail options available.

District Attorney Hoovler expressed gratitude to the New York State Police and other local law enforcement agencies for their role in apprehending Morgan. He commented on the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for healthcare providers and the commitment to pursuing violent offenders.

The case is being handled by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold. Authorities emphasize that the charges are allegations, and Morgan is presumed innocent until proven guilty. A conference is scheduled for May 5.
