Man, 24, gunned down in early-morning Bronx shooting

BRONX, NY — A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest outside a residential building in the Bronx early Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers from the 45th Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a person shot outside 226 Quincy Street at approximately 4:47 a.m. When they arrived, they found the victim lying on the sidewalk with two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Emergency Medical Services transported the man to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced deceased. The NYPD has not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of his family.

No suspects in custody as NYPD investigates

No arrests have been made, and authorities are working to determine a motive behind the shooting. Detectives were seen canvassing the area on Sunday morning, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses.

The block, located in the northeast section of the Bronx, was taped off for several hours as officers conducted their investigation. Police have not recovered a weapon and have not identified any suspects.

The fatal shooting adds to a string of recent overnight violence across the city, as NYPD continues efforts to reduce gun-related incidents.
