SALISBURY, MARYLAND — Maryland State Police have arrested a 28-year-old Delaware man in connection with the fatal shooting of a Florida resident in Wicomico County last June, authorities announced Saturday.
Fernando Medino-Moreta, of Lincoln, Delaware, is charged with first- and second-degree murder and multiple related offenses. He is currently being held in Delaware as he awaits extradition to Maryland.
The charges stem from a June 10, 2024, shooting in the 700 block of E. Naylor Mill Road in Salisbury. Police say Franklin Abraham Perez Rodriguez, 23, of Miami, Florida, was shot around 2:30 a.m. that morning and later died at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital.
According to investigators, Medino-Moreta was located Friday night after a tip from an anonymous caller alerted Delaware State Police to his presence in a vehicle in a Millsboro, Delaware, parking lot off Route 113. State troopers conducted a traffic stop and identified the suspect.
“Shortly before 9:00 p.m. yesterday, investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit were contacted by Delaware State Police after receiving a tip from an anonymous caller,” police said in a statement.
Investigation led by Maryland State Police Homicide Unit
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit has led the investigation since the initial incident. Salisbury Police first responded to the shooting in June before requesting state police involvement due to the nature of the crime.
Details surrounding the motive for the shooting have not been disclosed. Authorities have not stated whether the suspect and the victim knew each other.
Detectives from Maryland coordinated with Delaware authorities throughout the arrest operation, which remains under investigation as officials prepare for extradition proceedings.
