Fort Lauderdale cop arrested for beating pregnant partner

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Fort Lauderdale police officer has been arrested following a domestic disturbance investigation in which he is accused of physically assaulting his pregnant partner during a confrontation on May 16.

According to a sworn affidavit from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Timothy Skaggs is facing multiple charges after his partner told investigators he struck her repeatedly, pinned her down, and attempted to strangle her during an altercation in their shared residence. Skaggs, who was reportedly on duty and in uniform at the time, fled the scene before police arrived.

The victim told deputies she and Skaggs had been in a relationship for two and a half years and were living together as a family with her two children. She disclosed that the dispute began after confronting Skaggs about his infidelities and informing him she was several weeks pregnant. The situation escalated after she threatened to contact his wife if he didn’t leave.

According to the report, Skaggs took the woman’s phone and used physical force to prevent her from calling for help. She described being pushed onto a bed, pinned down, and struck in the face. He later dragged her into a bathroom closet to prevent her children from hearing the incident. The victim said Skaggs strangled her with both hands around her neck, though not to the point of obstructing her breathing.

Victim’s children partially witnessed the assault

The woman’s daughter confirmed hearing her mother yelling for help and observed Skaggs pulling her mother back into the room and closing the door. The child’s recorded forensic interview supported key details of the victim’s account.

Skaggs was taken into custody the next day after voluntarily arriving at the police station. During an audio- and video-recorded interview, he initially denied the assault and claimed he had only stopped by for food. He later admitted the victim had told him about the pregnancy and acknowledged taking her phone but denied any physical abuse.

Later that day, the victim received several calls from a “No Caller ID” number while retrieving her belongings under police supervision. Officers reported that Skaggs, speaking during the calls, pleaded with the victim to retract her allegations, citing a 180-day suspension and the risk of losing his job.

The officer was formally charged, though specific charges were not detailed in the report. The victim expressed her intent to prosecute and disclosed a history of abuse during the relationship, including previous assaults she never reported.

A Fort Lauderdale police officer now faces criminal charges after an investigation revealed detailed allegations of domestic violence involving a pregnant partner and attempts to interfere with the investigation.
