Mom thought a serial killer was coming for her, so she drugged her daughter and left her to die

GREENSBURG, Pa. — A Westmoreland County woman who drugged her 6-year-old daughter with fentanyl in a failed attempt to kill her in a wooded area near Loyalhanna Lake has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison, authorities said Friday.

Skye Naggy, 32, of Greensburg, pleaded guilty but mentally ill in January to multiple charges including attempted homicide, aiding suicide, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.

Police charged Naggy in November 2022 after she was found in a remote area with her daughter, who later tested positive for fentanyl and other opiates. Investigators said Naggy left behind handwritten letters claiming she had to protect herself and the child from a nonexistent serial killer and that she believed God had told her she would die soon.

Authorities tracked Naggy’s phone to a trail near Loyalhanna Lake, where officers located her and the child. The girl survived the overdose and is currently in the care of a relative, prosecutors said.

Mental health treatment to continue in prison

Common Pleas Judge Christopher Feliciani ordered that Naggy continue receiving mental health treatment while serving her sentence. In addition to her prison term, she will serve five years of probation upon release.

The court accepted Naggy’s plea of guilty but mentally ill, a designation that acknowledges her mental illness while holding her criminally responsible for her actions.

A Greensburg woman who believed a fictional killer was after her will serve up to 20 years for drugging her daughter in an attempted murder.
