Baltimore dad floored after $50000 Powerball win answers prayer for college cash
BALTIMORE, MD — A Michigan-born Baltimore resident who has played the lottery for more than 30 years said he was stunned after scanning a Powerball ticket and discovering it was worth $50,000.
The longtime player claimed the prize Monday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He said the win was the largest he has ever received, far surpassing his previous high of $140.
The Baltimore resident, who works as a business manager, said he regularly plays jackpot games such as Powerball and Mega Millions. He told lottery officials that he did not expect to win a major prize but had recently hoped for financial support for his family.
According to the winner, he had prayed for $50,000 just weeks before the drawing, saying he wanted to help his four children who are all in college.
He described the moment he scanned the ticket as a shock and said the prize would ease financial pressure as his children pursue their education.
The winning ticket was purchased at The News Stand, 6901 Security Boulevard in Windsor Mill.
The Maryland Lottery did not release additional details about the drawing or the specific numbers matched.
For one Baltimore father, a routine scan at a lottery terminal has now delivered $50,000 in unexpected relief.
