Authorities investigate fatal crash on West Carteret Bridge

CARTERET, N.J. — Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Carteret Police Chief Theodore Nycz announced Sunday that an investigation is underway following a fatal crash on the West Carteret Bridge.

The crash occurred on Saturday, January 11, at approximately 9:55 p.m., when police received a 911 call reporting the incident on Roosevelt Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two vehicles involved: an Infiniti driven by Cristina Flores, 34, of Avenel, and a Toyota Camry operated by a 23-year-old man from Carteret.

Flores sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the Camry was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

Details about the cause of the crash have not been disclosed, and officials confirmed that the investigation remains active. No additional information about the circumstances of the collision or the condition of the injured driver has been released.

Prosecutor Ciccone and Chief Nycz have not provided further comment as investigators work to determine the events leading up to the crash.
