WASHINGTON, D.C. – An unsettling series of events unfolded in Northeast D.C., culminating in the hospitalization of a young boy, who is also a person of interest in an earlier carjacking.

Early in the morning, D.C. Police responded to a reported carjacking involving a red Toyota Camry with D.C. tags, near 14th Street Southeast and T Street Southeast. The boy, associated with the carjacking, later appeared at Benning Road Northeast, close to Anacostia Avenue Northeast. At approximately 3:40 a.m., near a gas station in the area, he sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.

The victim, whose age and identity remain undisclosed, was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He is currently the only known shooting victim. Police believe he was involved in the earlier carjacking, but details about other possible suspects or their involvement have not been released.

Authorities are investigating the connection between the carjacking and the subsequent shooting. Due to ongoing police activity, the 3300 block of Benning Road Northeast is closed between 34th Street and Anacostia Avenue.
