Drug bust uncovers cocaine, heroin and gun as Jersey suspect nabbed after surveillance
OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. — A two-month drug investigation came to a head when detectives stopped a suspected dealer and uncovered narcotics, a handgun, and cash during a coordinated takedown.
Authorities say Harry Clayton, 45, of Ocean Township in Monmouth County, had been under investigation for allegedly distributing cocaine throughout Ocean County.
The probe led investigators to track Clayton to a residence in Neptune City on March 12 before he drove away, triggering a surveillance operation.
Detectives stopped his vehicle shortly after, where they say Clayton attempted to hide items in his clothing before being taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up heroin, a Smith & Wesson .380 caliber handgun, hollow-point ammunition, and $1,800 in cash.
Investigators also recovered approximately 24 grams of crack cocaine from Clayton’s person.
Clayton now faces a long list of charges, including drug distribution, weapons offenses, possession near a school zone, and obstruction.
He was taken to the Ocean County Jail and later released under New Jersey’s bail reform guidelines.
