Extra ticket slip leads to massive $150K lottery prize in Maryland

Baltimore County woman hits $150K Pick 5 jackpot after accidental extra play

Randallstown, MD – A Baltimore County woman who casually plays the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game walked away with a $150,000 prize after mistakenly purchasing an extra ticket — a slip that turned a routine lottery run into her biggest win yet.

The longtime player, who usually buys two tickets for consecutive drawings, accidentally selected a third ticket while playing her Pick 5 numbers at the Carroll Motor Fuels station on Liberty Road in Randallstown. That unintentional $1 wager turned out to be the one that pushed her total prize from $100,000 to $150,000 in the September 8 evening drawing.

The winning combination, 20250, held special meaning for her — a number based on her grandson’s graduation year, with a zero added to the end. She later told Lottery officials she kept double-checking the numbers because she couldn’t believe her eyes.

The surprise win came with an additional boost: she also claimed two more $5,000 prizes the following day on boxed bet tickets from the September 9 midday drawing, adding another $10,000 to her overall lottery earnings. Those smaller wins were redeemed at a Maryland Lottery Expanded Cashing Authority Program location.

Her history with the Maryland Lottery includes previous wins of $50,000 and $25,000. She said her last $50,000 prize was used to replace her home’s furnace and air conditioning system — a purchase she now plans to make again with the new winnings, as the same system is ready for another upgrade.

With a larger payout this time, she plans to pay cash for the replacement and save the remainder.

The retailer that sold the winning tickets received a $1,500 bonus for the sale.
