Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today revealed that Osvaldo Marrero, 35, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and weapon possession charges. The charges stem from the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Anthony Holley in NYCHA’s Fulton Houses in Chelsea.
Marrero admitted in New York Supreme Court to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. He is set to receive a 16-year prison sentence on August 1, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.
District Attorney Bragg emphasized the significance of Marrero’s accountability for the fatal incident. He highlighted ongoing efforts to combat gun violence, including legislative initiatives and community investment.
Court documents reveal that on November 27, 2022, around 9:25 PM, Marrero was seen holding a firearm at the Fulton Houses after his friends departed. Anthony Holley, after an altercation involving a firearm, was fatally shot by Marrero as he was walking away from the scene.
Marrero was apprehended on December 19, 2022, in Harlem. The case is being managed by Assistant D.A.s Leila Kermani and Kaleigh Shea, under the supervision of senior officials in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
The prosecution has received substantial assistance from the NYPD, notably Detective Robert Humann and Lawrence Wein of the Manhattan South Homicide Squad, enhancing the handling of the case.
