Gas station attendant pepper-sprayed in Sayreville robbery, suspects flee on foot

SAYREVILLE, NJ – Police are searching for two suspects who attacked a gas station attendant with pepper spray and stole cash during a robbery at the Delta Gas Station on Main Street Friday night.

According to Sayreville Police, the robbery occurred around 8:44 p.m. near the intersection of Main Street and River Road. Two individuals dressed in dark clothing approached the on-duty attendant, sprayed him with pepper spray, and grabbed the money he was carrying before running off toward Hillside Avenue.

Patrol officers arrived within minutes and canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, but the suspects managed to escape. The victim’s injuries were not described as serious.

Investigators are asking nearby residents and businesses to review security camera footage from 8:15 to 9:00 p.m. for any potential evidence. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective George Lestuck at 732-395-9389.
