Man arrested after brutal hammer attack on bicycle in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with a hammer assault in Northwest D.C. that left one victim hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police announced Monday.

The incident occurred Thursday morning around 11:34 a.m. in the 1500 block of Park Road Northwest. According to the victim, an unknown suspect approached on a bicycle and assaulted him with a hammer before fleeing the scene.

The following day, officers from the Third District apprehended the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Darrell Marshall of Northwest, D.C., in the 1600 block of Columbia Road Northwest. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (hammer) and possession of a controlled substance.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by D.C. Fire and EMS and is expected to recover.
