Multiple Serious Crashes During Shore Exodus on Garden State Parkway

June 23, 2024

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Multiple crashes slowed traffic during Sunday night’s Jersey Shore exodus as heavy winds, rain, and thunderstorms prematurely cut this weekend’s festivities short. At this time, it is not known whether rain and road conditions played a role in the collisions.

In Little Egg Harbor, a crash on the Garden State Parkway southbound just south of Exit 58 in Little Egg Harbor Township has resulted in partial lane closures. The incident, which began on Sunday, June 23, at 9:48 PM, involves the blockage of one left lane and the shoulder, out of three lanes. Updates as of 10:08 PM indicate that the situation is ongoing, and drivers are advised to expect delays in the area.

In Lacey Townnship, a separate incident on the same evening, a vehicle crash with a vehicle going off the roadway occurred on the Garden State Parkway northbound, south of Exit 74 in Lacey Township. The right shoulder was affected, starting from 9:20 PM, with an update at 9:21 PM confirming the location of the incident. Motorists traveling through this area should exercise caution and be prepared for potential disruptions.

Later that night at around 10 pm, another crash occurred in Toms River near mile marker 85.7. All of the crashes were in the northbound lanes.

Travelers on the Garden State Parkway are advised to stay alert and consider alternative routes if possible until the affected areas are cleared and normal traffic conditions resume.
