NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice has received more than $2.5 million in federal grants to support its racial and social justice advocacy efforts aimed at empowering communities of color.

The organization focuses on closing the racial wealth gap, reforming the criminal justice system, and expanding voting rights across the state. Its initiatives seek to address disparities in housing, employment, and incarceration while advocating for policies that promote economic and democratic equity.

With an emphasis on evidence-based policy and advocacy, the institute works to “repair the harm of structural racism” through legislative efforts and community engagement.

Financial records show the group received more than $2.5 million in 2023. The funding will help advance its mission of addressing systemic racial inequities in New Jersey.

The grants strengthen the organization’s role in shaping policy and advocating for economic and social justice reforms in the state.
