June 30, 2025

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — A North Bergen man has been sentenced to 24 years in state prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in 2019, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced Friday.

Oscar Ramirez, 33, received the sentence on June 27 from Judge Mitzy Galis-Menendez after pleading guilty to kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. The 24-year sentence for kidnapping will run concurrently with an 18-year sentence for the assault charge.

Ramirez’s sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act and includes mandatory Megan’s Law registration and lifetime parole supervision.

Key Points

  • Oscar Ramirez, 33, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for kidnapping and sexual assault
  • The 2019 attack occurred in North Bergen’s Grove Church Cemetery
  • Ramirez must register under Megan’s Law and will be under parole supervision for life

The charges stem from an October 26, 2019 incident in which Ramirez approached a 23-year-old woman on 46th Street in North Bergen, threatened her with a sharp object, and assaulted her at Grove Church Cemetery.

Ramirez was later identified as the attacker and taken into custody as part of the investigation by local law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office.

He will serve the full term without the possibility of early release under state law.
