Philly player wins $1 million on Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off ticket

Philadelphia, PA – One lucky player just became a millionaire after purchasing a $1 million-winning Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off ticket at a Sunoco gas station in Philadelphia, the Lottery announced Monday.

The winning ticket was sold at Sunoco, located at 440 West Cheltenham Avenue. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket. The ticket came from the “Jackpot” game, a $20 scratch-off that features a grand prize of $1 million.

The Pennsylvania Lottery noted that scratch-off tickets are distributed randomly, and neither retailers nor the Lottery know where winning tickets will be sold until after a prize is claimed.

Winners of prizes over $5,000 are subject to state and federal taxes and are advised to sign the back of their ticket immediately. Prizes must be claimed within one year of the game’s official end-sale date, as listed on the Lottery’s website.

The “Jackpot” scratch-off game is part of the Lottery’s lineup of instant-win games, which continue to produce high-value winners across the state.
