Maryland player lands $100K on routine visit
Accokeek, MD — A routine visit to cash in a smaller prize quickly turned into a six-figure surprise for a Maryland woman who walked away with a $100,000 win.
The Prince George’s County resident, a retired government worker, purchased a $10 Scratch & Match ticket at Weis Market on Livingston Road after cashing in a $500 prize. She scanned the ticket at the store as part of her usual routine and received an unexpected message.
After asking a store clerk to rescan the ticket, it was confirmed she had won a $100,000 top prize.
She claimed the prize April 30 at Maryland Lottery headquarters, accompanied by her brother.
The winner said she plans to use the money to renovate her mother’s home.
The Weis Market retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Lottery officials said the Scratch & Match game launched in March and still has several top prizes remaining.
