Social media meetup leads to fights and multiple arrests in Baltimore

Downtown chaos erupts as teen gathering spirals into fights and arrests across Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. — What started as a planned teen meetup quickly spiraled into chaos across downtown Baltimore, with fights breaking out and multiple arrests made as crowds moved from block to block.

The disturbances unfolded Saturday, March 29, when large groups of juveniles gathered in the downtown area following what officials say was a “teen link-up” promoted on social media.

As tensions rose, officers encountered groups fighting and acting disorderly, forcing police to step in and attempt to disperse the crowds.

But the situation didn’t stay contained.

Parts of the group moved to nearby locations, including the 100 block of Market Place, where additional fights broke out.

During that incident, three juveniles — ages 12, 14 and 17 — were arrested on assault charges. Police said one 14-year-old was tased after refusing to comply with officers before being taken into custody.

Elsewhere, more serious charges followed.

On East Lombard Street, three 13-year-old boys were arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery and taken to juvenile booking.

Another 13-year-old girl was arrested for assault in a separate incident nearby and later released to a parent.

In total, seven juveniles were arrested as the unrest spread across multiple downtown locations.

No injuries were reported.

Officials say the gatherings were fueled by social media, and the investigation is now expanding to determine who organized or promoted the event — with potential charges being considered.

City leaders also issued a strong warning, emphasizing that disorderly behavior, violence and unlawful gatherings will not be tolerated.
