STAFFORD COUNTY, VA – A Stafford County deputy was injured Monday afternoon after being attacked in the lobby of Mary Washington Hospital, authorities said.

Just before 12:15 p.m., the deputy was assisting an individual seeking mental health resources when he encountered 39-year-old Darrell Jackson, a man he recognized from previous encounters.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson, who was not connected to the person receiving care, approached the deputy and began confronting him before launching an unprovoked attack.

Hospital security and nursing staff intervened as the deputy activated his emergency button, summoning law enforcement. Jackson was eventually detained, and the deputy suffered minor injuries.

Jackson has been charged with assault and battery on law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of justice. He is being held without bond.
