The Severn resident claimed a $77,777 top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s new $10 Triple Red 7s Multiplier scratch-off game.

The winner said she and her sister-in-law stopped at the Exxon station located at 805 Reece Road in Severn to buy gas and lottery tickets.

The pair frequently visit the location, partly because of a popular food truck often parked nearby.

“I tell her to buy tickets. You never know when you are going to be lucky,” the winner’s sister-in-law told lottery officials while visiting headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.

After scratching the ticket, the winner discovered she had matched the number 7 with the game’s $77,777 top prize.

Despite seeing the winning amount, she initially doubted the ticket was real.

Her sister-in-law later confirmed the jackpot by scanning the ticket using the Maryland Lottery mobile app.

“I’ve been doing it for years and she just plays a couple of times, and wins,” the sister-in-law said with a laugh.

The winner said she has not finalized plans for the money but is considering buying a car.

Maryland Lottery officials said the Triple Red 7s Multiplier scratch-off launched May 15, and the Severn winner became the first person to claim a top prize in the new game.

Nine additional top prizes remain available statewide.

Lottery officials also said the game still includes 22 prizes worth $10,000 along with hundreds of thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.

Frequent lottery player says trusted number strategy finally paid off with major Maryland jackpot prize

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Southern Maryland man says his longtime dedication to playing Powerball and other jackpot games finally paid off after a lucky ticket delivered what he called a “life-changing” win.

The Calvert County resident claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize from the May 6 drawing during a visit to Maryland Lottery headquarters on May 15.

The North Beach man, who works in the legal profession, told lottery officials he regularly plays Powerball, Mega Millions and Multi-Match during every drawing.

“I also play the daily games sometimes if a specific number combination sticks in my head,” the winner said.

The player said he keeps track of winning numbers from previous drawings and uses them to help choose future number combinations.

After scanning his winning ticket using the Maryland Lottery app, the man initially believed the result had to be a mistake.

“I looked at it again and again, thinking, ‘This can’t be right,’” he told lottery officials. “There were more zeroes than I’m used to seeing.”

The winner later drove to a lottery retailer to confirm the ticket was authentic.

Lottery officials confirmed the ticket was indeed a third-tier Powerball winner worth $50,000.

The lucky ticket was sold at the Fastop store located at 8834 Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach.
