Virginia Beach woman turns $1 Power Play into $150K lottery win

Woman turns $1 add on into $150K Powerball win

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach woman turned a small extra bet into a six-figure payday after winning $150,000 in a recent Powerball drawing.

Susan Cox purchased her ticket using the Virginia Lottery mobile app for the March 9 drawing and matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball.

That combination typically wins $50,000, but Cox added the Power Play option for an extra dollar — tripling her prize to $150,000.

The winning numbers were 22, 23, 28, 36 and 54, with a Powerball of 13. She used Easy Pick to generate her numbers.

Powerball drawings are held three times a week, with overall odds of winning any prize at 1 in 25.

Lottery officials said profits from ticket sales support K-12 education across Virginia, including tens of millions of dollars distributed to Virginia Beach schools each year.
