Street Racer Charged After Fleeing Police

HAUPPAUGE, NY – A street racer has been arrested after thinking he could outrun the Suffolk County Police Department.

“A Queens man was arrested earlier this week after he fled from police officers who were breaking up a potential street race in Hauppauge,” the department said today. “Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting illegal street racing on Commerce Drive on Sunday afternoon.”

Responding officers observed cars lined up, preparing to race, and activated lights and sirens to stop the activity. One of the drivers, Michael Beyer, fled in his vehicle, weaving in and out of traffic, but was stopped by police a short time later.

Beyer was charged with Reckless Driving and Unlawful Fleeing an Officer and his 2014 Nissan 370Z was impounded.
