Fatal Carjacking Attempt in Bronzeville Neighborhood Leaves One Dead and Another Wounded

CHICAGO, IL – In the early hours of Monday morning, tragedy struck in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago when a 20-year-old man was fatally shot and a 22-year-old woman was wounded during a carjacking attempt.

According to police reports, the victims were sitting in their car on the 4900 block of South Calumet Avenue at around midnight when they were approached by two gunmen. The assailants demanded that the victims hand over their vehicle, but the pair attempted to escape.

In response, the gunmen opened fire, causing the victims to crash into a parked vehicle. The male victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the female victim was hit once in the foot and taken to the same hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

The suspects fled the scene and no one has yet been taken into custody. Area One detectives have launched an investigation into the fatal carjacking attempt and are urging anyone with information to contact the Chicago Police Department.
