Williamsport Contractor Sentenced to Prison for Scamming Customers

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Michael Bloom, a Williamsport-based contractor, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half to seven years in a State Correctional Institute for failing to fulfill elevator installation contracts. The 44-year-old man pleaded guilty in February to seven counts of theft by unlawful taking.

According to the Attorney General’s office, Bloom entered into contracts with six residences and one church in multiple states, including Pennsylvania, from 2019 to 2022. He took deposits from the homeowners and church but failed to deliver the services he promised. When the residents demanded refunds, Bloom refused to return their deposits, resulting in a total of $106,860 taken from his victims.

Bloom’s sentence was handed down by a Lycoming County Judge on Thursday. He has already paid restitution to his victims. The victims included five people who were over 60 years old.

Attorney General Michelle Henry said that she hopes Bloom’s sentence sends a message that her office will stand up for Pennsylvania consumers and do everything in its power to make scam victims whole. She urged anyone who believes they or their family members may have been a victim of Michael Bloom to file a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection, email [email protected], or call 800-441-2555.
