Shore's Thompson votes Yes on 'billion Dollar Bailout' for Offshore wind farm

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Democrat Senator Sam Thompson, who recently switched from the Republican to the Democrat party after being ousted in 2022 voted in favor of a ‘billion dollar bailout’ for offshore wind farm developer Orsted on Friday.

The measure, which provides for federal tax credits to Orsted, who has announced financial difficulties and concerns with the ongoing offshore wind project which one New Jersey Senator says could cost ratepayers up to a billion dollars.

Senator Ed Durr claims the measure could see as much as a billion dollars in taxpayer funds to get the project across the finish line.

Thompson, who was ousted by the Republican party last year is now a member of the Democrat party but was not endorsed by Democrats in the November general election.

The measure passed with the necessary 21 votes. Had Thompson voted against the bill, it would have been defeated.

Republicans Doug Steinhardt and James Hozapfel did not vote.
