TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has announced that he will lead a nine-day economic mission to East Asia in October, with visits to Japan and South Korea.
The trip aims to strengthen economic, academic, and cultural ties between New Jersey and its vital regional trading partners. New Jersey has a significant Asian American population, making up nearly one million residents, including over 100,000 Korean Americans.
During the mission, Governor Murphy and a delegation of 30 to 40 members, including business leaders, university representatives, and elected officials, will engage in meetings with companies, trade organizations, government officials, higher education leaders, startup incubators, and other economic partners. The focus will be on key industry sectors such as infrastructure, clean energy, financial services, life sciences, technology, logistics, manufacturing, and food and beverage.
The economic relationships between New Jersey, Japan, and South Korea generate more than $13 billion in annual shared economic activity. Governor Murphy aims to showcase New Jersey as an attractive destination for East Asian companies looking to expand or relocate to the United States, emphasizing the state’s strategic location, robust infrastructure, and skilled workforce.
The mission is seen as an opportunity to strengthen economic collaboration, foster innovation, and explore new business opportunities between New Jersey and its East Asian partners.
