by Charlie Dwyer

The New Jersey State Police and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are urgently seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place on August 23 in East Brunswick Township, Middlesex County.

The preliminary investigation reveals that at around 10:45 p.m., a 25-foot-long White ISUZU box truck was parked northbound on the shoulder of the truck lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike, near milepost 78.8. A collision subsequently occurred with an unknown tractor-trailer, which then fled the scene.

As a result of the crash, the White ISUZU box truck sustained damage to the driver’s side door and mirror. The driver of the truck, 78-year-old Giuseppe Zuccarello of Whitestone, NY, was struck while outside of his vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Authorities are urgently appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events leading up to or following it to contact the Troop “D” Criminal Investigations Office at 732-441-4500 ext. 4424. Anonymous tips are also welcomed.
