NEW YORK CITY, NY – New York City Mayor Eric Adams says his city can’t handle foreigners arriving from the southern border saying it will ‘destroy New York City’.

Adams has delivered a dire assessment of New York City’s situation, as it struggles to manage over 110,000 migrants, including a soaring number of asylum seekers. Adams said there’s no end in sight to the crisis.

“We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month,” Adams said, adding that migrants from Africa, Russia and other countries are also coming through the southern border, on their way to New York City.

“Every community in this city is going to be impacted,” he said. “We have a 12 billion dollar deficit and we’re going to have to cut every service in the city…will be impacted.”

As of September 3, Mayor Adams revealed that the city was responsible for more than 112,300 individuals, 59,700 of whom are seeking asylum. Over 10,100 asylum seekers have entered through the city’s intake center since September 2022. From August 28 to September 3 alone, an additional 27,000 new asylum seekers came under the city’s care.

“They’re destroying New York City,” he said. “The city we knew, we’re about to lose.”

To handle the influx, New York City has opened 206 facilities, including 15 humanitarian relief centers. Despite these efforts, Mayor Adams suggests that the situation remains precarious, emphasizing the city’s ongoing struggle to cope with the surge.
