Fatal Collision in Magnolia Claims One Life, Injures Another

MAGNOLIA, DE – A high-speed collision on Clapham Road resulted in the death of a 63-year-old man and non-life threatening injuries to an 11-year-old passenger in another vehicle.

The incident occurred on September 9 at approximately 5:19 p.m., involving a white 2017 Ford Escort and a black 2023 Mazda CX-30. The Ford was traveling southbound on Clapham Road at a high rate of speed when it crossed the centerline, colliding with the northbound Mazda. The Ford veered off into a wooded area and came to a stop after a violent impact with trees. The Mazda spun and halted in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending family notification. The Mazda’s driver, a 16-year-old girl, was unharmed. An 11-year-old passenger in the Mazda was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The road remained closed for approximately 3.5 hours for investigation and clearance. Delaware State Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
