HARWOOD, MARYLAND – A severe traffic accident occurred on December 13, 2023, around 9:00 p.m. on Solomons Island Road near Owensville Sudley Road in Harwood. The crash involved a head-on collision between two vehicles, resulting in one fatality and two individuals sustaining serious injuries.
The incident unfolded as a 2019 Ford Escape, driven by Anthony Michael Filippelli, 32, of Edgewater, Maryland, was traveling southbound on Solomons Island Road. The vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 2013 Ford Fiesta.
Stephen Lee Horodyski, 68, the driver of the Ford Fiesta, suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Sara Louise Winter, 66, a passenger in the Fiesta from Gambrills, Maryland, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. Filippelli, the driver of the Ford Escape, also suffered serious injuries and received hospital treatment.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash to determine the factors that contributed to this tragic event.
