UTICA, NY – On December 14th, 2023, Utica Police responded to a purse larceny incident in the 1600 block of Whitesboro St. The victim reported that a group of juveniles approached her, with a male member forcibly taking her purse and fleeing the scene.
The incident, which occurred in front of a convenience store, was captured on surveillance footage. This evidence, along with the value of the contents in the purse, elevated the crime to felony status. The Juvenile Aid Unit subsequently took over the investigation.
The Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center distributed photos and video of the suspects. Collaborative efforts among officers led to the identification of the 15-year-old male responsible for the theft. Due to his age, his identity remains confidential.
The juvenile was charged with Grand Larceny in the fourth degree. This case highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement collaboration and the utilization of surveillance technology in solving crimes.
